"Presenting the linkage definition as “leads to” some subsequent event or “responsible for” the same, I build a map of knowledge (the unit of analysis being causation) surrounding a particular chronology and/or theme. I think of terms of linguistics to understand my linking preferences. A sentence as a unit of thought has complements. I think of my linking “syntax” as these same components. In this way a maps is built one connection at a time." - @Calhistorian
